Why Boys Clothes?
Posted on March 04 2019
Hi there! I'm Channelle, the woman behind My Little Gent. Not too many people know my story and the why behind the brand. I often get asked "why just boys clothes?" or the infamous "are you going to do girls clothes too now that you have a daughter?" My answer to both of these questions is basically the same.
Being pregnant is one of the most wonderful times in a woman’s life. When I was pregnant with my first child, like any other pregnant woman, I couldn’t wait to find out the gender so I could do what us women love most...shop! How many times have you heard a pregnant woman say “omg I hope it’s a girl because the clothes are so cute” If you’re like me, more times than you can count. This seems to be the norm and that’s because, well girls have always been so much cuter than boys clothes. Shopping for girls is an experience, they have cute little dresses, cute packaging, all the bells and whistles that make the parent feel like they’re buying something just as special as their little one.
So why don’t the moms of boys have this same experience? We typically get to choose from plain colored shirts that get tossed in a bag and we’re sent on our way. Then when it comes to special occasions, how many times can you restyle the same basic black suit and the same basic white button down shirt?
I don’t know about you, but I quickly got tired of this after I had my son. But I did have one thing in my corner, my fashion design background and ability to sew so I just started making the clothes that I wished existed for little boys. Clothes that truly stood out for those special moments. From this My Little Gent was born. Finally, I had that same feeling that moms of little girls have. I was excited to dress my little man up for the next special occasion and women would come up to me and say “omg I can’t wait to have a little boy now so I can buy your clothes!” Talk about full circle.
So in a nutshell this is why we only do boys clothes. I'd love to hear about what your experience shopping for your little gent has been like so far?
